Specialty Chinese Painted Quail / Button Quail Treat Feed – Refined Grain, Seed, Insect & Crustacean Blend (0.5-5KG)
This specialty Chinese Painted Quail (Button Quail) Treat Feed is a carefully researched, refined enrichment blend of grains, seeds, insects, and crustaceans, developed specifically for Chinese Painted Quail (Coturnix chinensis) 3 weeks old and above.
Ingredient selection is guided by an understanding of their natural diet, foraging behaviour, and ecological niche, resulting in a formulation designed to provide dietary enrichment, not a generic seed mix. While created with Button Quail in mind, it is also enjoyed by other quail species when fed as a supplementary treat.
Why Button Quail Need Something Different
Inspired by Natural Foraging
Chinese Painted (Button) Quail are often overlooked when it comes to specialised care products - particularly enrichment feeds. Most commercially available quail feeds and treats are designed for larger species such as Coturnix or poultry, not for the tiny size, delicate beaks, and natural behaviours of Button Quail.
As a result, many keepers are forced to adapt unsuitable products that are:
-
Too large or difficult for small quail to eat
-
Nutritionally inappropriate
-
Lacking in mental and behavioural enrichment
-
Designed for production rather than welfare
Button Quail are active, ground-dwelling foragers by nature. In the wild, they inhabit grasslands, wetlands, scrub, woodland edges, and cultivated areas across southern China, Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and northern Australia. Within these habitats, they forage among leaf litter, damp ground, and dense cover, consuming a diverse selection of small seeds, grains, insects, crustaceans, and other invertebrates.
When this instinctive foraging behaviour isn’t supported in captivity, birds can become bored, inactive, or stressed — even when their basic nutritional needs are technically met.
Because there is no available enrichment feed designed specifically for Chinese Painted Quail, we began developing our own specialty products tailored to their unique needs.
Everything we offer has been tested with our own birds, refined through careful observation, and adjusted based on how Button Quail actually interact with it — not how larger quail or chickens would. These products exist because we couldn’t find what our birds needed elsewhere. They are made by Button Quail keepers, for Button Quail.
