Button Quail / Chinese Painted Quail  Hatching Eggs – Adorable, Colourful, Ethically Bred 

Our button quail (Coturnix chinensis) are tiny, cheerful birds full of colour and personality. We keep a large, vibrant flock featuring nearly all recognised colour varieties - wildtype, silver, blue-face, red-breasted, cinnamon, pied + tux(several colours), ivory and more. You’ll receive a lovely natural mix of egg colours, from lightly speckled tan to purple. 

We raise all our birds with kindness. We never cull unwanted colours or “undesirable” traits, every quail has a home here. To maintain strong, reliable breeding lines, our pet-only quail live separately from the quail we collect eggs from, ensuring excellent quality while keeping our ethical standards.

 

Important: Shipped Egg Hatch Rates 

Please note that posted hatching eggs typically achieve a 30–50% hatch rate, even under good incubation conditions. Postal handling, temperature fluctuations, and individual incubator setup all play a role in success. 

While we provide fresh, fertile eggs and include extras to improve your chances, please order with this realistic hatch rate in mind. Some experienced breeders may achieve higher results, but 30–50% is the average expectation for shipped eggs. 

 

Naturally Broody Hens

Thanks to their calm, enriched, and stress-free environment, many of our hens regularly go broody, a trait that can be rare in button quail. Our flock’s natural setup encourages dust-bathing, foraging, and quiet hiding spots, which helps bring out their instinct to sit and hatch. These broody tendencies are genetically influenced, and our breeding groups include hens from strong broody lines, adding an extra touch of natural behaviour to your future chicks.

 

Button Quail Facts

  • Species: Coturnix chinensis

  • Adult Size: 40–50g (the smallest quail species)

  • Egg Weight: 3–5g

  • Incubation: 16–18 days (can take up to 24 in imperfect conditions)

  • Chick Size: About the size of a bumblebee

  • Lifespan: 2–4 years

  • Colours: Over a dozen recognised morphs - expect colourful surprises!

  • Perfect for indoor/outdoor aviaries: Button quail are great for aviaries because they peacefully clean up the floor by eating spilled seed while adding activity and charm without disturbing other birds. (but may need heat in harsh winters)

All eggs are freshly collected from our diverse, unrelated lines, offering strong hatch potential, lovely colour mixes, and the chance to hatch some naturally broody, well-rounded little quail.

No Refunds or Replacements*: Due to the variables involved in hatching (incubation setup, shipping conditions, and the buyer's experience), we cannot offer refunds or replacements for the eggs. *with some exceptions

Quality Assurance: You will receive fresh, fertile eggs (no older than 48 hours) and extra eggs to help maximize your hatch rate. I have received great feedback on the quality and success of these eggs from reputable breeders in which we swapped/ refreshed our bloodlines.


Dispatch & Shipping

  • Dispatch time: 3–4 working days. This allows us to keep up with orders while ensuring you receive freshly collected eggs.

  • Shipping days: Monday to Thursday (occasionally Friday).

We schedule dispatch carefully to prevent eggs from sitting in the postal system over the weekend and to ensure they arrive as fresh as possible for incubation.
